I never owned any Survivor records back in the ’80s because I thought I was too cool for that. My college roommate Chester owned a CD copy of Vital Signs, though, and I would crank that shit up and rock out when he wasn’t home. If I heard “Burning Heart” on the car radio, I felt like driving into a brick wall– no, not because I hated it, but because the song made me believe I could kick the wall’s ass.

Over the years, I have acquired just about every Survivor album. Most of them are on vinyl, and I have taken the time to carefully rip them into digital format. I am no longer embarrassed to say that I really like Survivor. I am also not embarrassed to admit that I got a little misty yesterday when I heard about the death of singer Jimi Jamison– fittingly, I received the sad news via a tweet from Martha Quinn.

Jamison had a great rock and roll voice, and his passing came way too early. Rest in peace, Jimi.

  1. What amazes me is how people are dying of heart attacks in this day and age. Cardiologists (heart doctors) have amazing equipment to evaluate the condition of the heart today. There are stress tests, echocardiograms and live x-rays in which to view the clogged arteries that are the #1 reason why heart attacks happen. Myocardial infarction (MI; Latin: infarctus myocardii) or acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is the medical term for an event commonly known as a heart attack. An MI occurs when blood stops flowing properly to a part of the heart, and the heart muscle is injured because it is not receiving enough oxygen. Usually this is because one of the coronary arteries that supplies blood to the heart develops a blockage due to an unstable buildup of white blood cells, cholesterol and fat. The event is called “acute” if it is sudden and serious.

There is no reason why a person has to die of a heart attack now or any time. Yes, a person can have a heart attack and die even if they are being treated by a cardiologist. They can cut down their chances of having one and live longer if they have a great diet, exercise and get yearly check-ups. People who have the means can get evaluated every 6 months if they so desire. Everyone over 50 years of age should have a cardiologist now matter what. By they way, when your heart stops…ummm, YOU STOP!
